Flowers for Lisa #71 – After Anna Atkins, 2017

I took my first photography course at Bowdoin College in my Junior year with a wonderful professor- John McKee. I was a sort of rebel then so I did a lot of work manipulating negatives and prints – I thought that in order for photography to be Art I had to do some surgery on it- One day I made a beautiful straight print and before I was about to cut it up it dawned on me that it was perfect the way it was so I have continued with straight photography since. I love the period of the invention of Photography- especially  the work of Fox Talbot- The idea that photography grew as the product of optics, chemistry, philosophy and curiosity has been an inspiration to me in my work with camera Obscura.
